This widespread use makes edible oil an ideal medium for fortifying essential nutrients.
Over 57% of children lack sufficient vitamin A, and vitamin D deficiencies that are common among pregnant women and their newborns. By fortifying edible oils with vitamins A and D, we can effectively tackle these deficiencies, leveraging the high penetration of oils in daily diets to reach the majority of the population.
Since vitamins A and D are fat-soluble, fortifying oils and fats with these nutrients is an effective and practical strategy to address micronutrient deficiencies. This method involves simple blending techniques and does not alter the taste, texture, or other sensory qualities of the oil. Fortified oils can contribute approximately 25% to 30% of the recommended dietary intake for vitamins A and D.
